Only 10 days left!
It’s official: the holiday season is here! Like many Americans, you may be thinking about what gifts to get your loved ones this month. Perhaps something they’ve always wanted. Perhaps something especially thoughtful. Maybe something you think that they need.
As you start your holiday shopping during this busy season, don’t forget about something that we all need for a happy and healthy 2019: health care coverage.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace is up and running, and there are only 10 days left to sign up for health insurance for the coming year. If you don’t get health insurance through your employer, Medicaid, Medicare or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, you can find a high-quality, affordable health care plan that works for you through the ACA marketplace.
And this isn’t a holiday purchase that will break the bank: many health plans in the ACA marketplace have premiums that are $50 to $100 per month, and 8 in 10 people will qualify for financial assistance.
If you’re new to the health insurance market place or have questions, you can visit healthcare.gov to learn more about plans that might work for you and your family’s budget. You can also visit any Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), like La Red in Georgetown, that are committed to finding plans and providers tailored to fit your lifestyle.
Recently, I visited La Red and saw firsthand how staff, who are experts at navigating the health insurance marketplace, are working directly with Delawareans to help them find a plan that fits both their health needs and budget. If you’re in Seaford, Milford or Georgetown, you can call them directly at 302-855-1233.
Do you live in Kent County or New Castle County? No problem. There are other FQHCs all around the First State! For a comprehensive list of where you can go for direct help, click here.
Don’t forget: Saturday, December 15th is your last day to enroll through the marketplace for 2019. So as you buy your presents and spend time with friends and family, remember there is no better gift than knowing you are covered for year ahead.
Every family in the First State and across our country deserves access to high-quality and affordable health care, and it’s one of the wisest investments you can make. This holiday season, help your family and loved ones find coverage that works for them so that everyone can have a happy and healthy New Year.
