Carper, Booker, Duckworth Praise Release of Environmental Justice Mapping and Screening Tool

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senators Tom Carper (D-Del.), Cory Booker (D- N.J.), and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), founders and co-chairs of the Senate Environmental Justice Caucus, issued the following statement welcoming the release of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ)’s Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST), a critical new resource that will help federal agencies better reach historically marginalized communities that have experienced legacy pollution.

“This is a meaningful step forward in our work to address the wrongs of our past and build a brighter future for our nation,” said the senators. “The screening tool released by the White House today will help ensure those Americans most in need are being reached and fully feeling the benefits of our climate, clean energy, and clean water investments. Now that the beta version of the tool has been released, it’s time to see how it works and how we can improve it even further — this resource has immense potential to help lift up communities and we are now at the precipice of realizing that vision for a more equitable nation.”

For the next 60 days, the CEJST beta version is open for comments and feedback from the public. You can view the tool and provide comments by visiting the link here.
