Carper Highlights Infrastructure Bill Clean Water Wins in Kent County

MILFORD, Del. – U.S. Senator Tom Carper, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today spoke at the Kent County Wastewater Facility on the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021. The landmark bipartisan bill passed by the Senate this week includes the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act of 2021, Senator Carper’s legislation that passed the Senate this spring that will provide Delaware with resources to upgrade water systems, address lead in drinking water, and address emerging contaminants like PFAS.

“Today we came to Kent County to discuss clean water, and we’re here at the site that makes sure clean water is provided to the county,” Senate Carper stated. “This week, the Senate passed bipartisan legislation that will provide funds to update drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, foster economic growth, enhance the health and well-being of families here in Delaware and across the nation, and address environmental justice.”

“This legislation is designed to address that need and reach municipalities by appropriating dollars and helping make infrastructure more affordable for ratepayers,” Carper continued. “I am so proud of this legislation, which included support from both sides of the aisle, and will help ensure that no matter where you live—whether it’s here in Milford, or Dover, Wilmington or Blades—Delawareans will have clean water.”
