Carper Statement on the 50th Anniversary of Amtrak
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today released the following statement on the 50th anniversary of Amtrak:
“Today, we celebrate 50 years of our nation’s passenger rail system and the hardworking men and women with Amtrak who get us where we need to go when we need to get there. Throughout those 50 years, I have been a regular rider on Amtrak—including many times commuting from Wilmington to Washington, D.C. with my friend, now-President Joe Biden. During our shared rides, we would take the opportunity to share our thoughts on Amtrak, as well as our hopes and aspirations for our country. Amtrak represents so much opportunity to bring together people and communities across the nation, while also reducing carbon emissions and creating good-paying jobs. Today, I feel optimistic about the future of passenger rail in our country and I look forward to seeing rail service grow throughout our country in the years ahead.”
