Asi Ofosu Joins Carper Staff as New State Director
WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) announced that Asi Ofosu has joined his staff as State Director based in Delaware. Ofosu, of Dover, has more than 20 years of experience working on Capitol Hill and in Delaware. She takes over the State Director role for Lori James, who will continue to serve as Senior Advisor to Senator Carper.
“I’m excited to welcome Asi to our team to lead my staff in our offices in each county in Delaware,” said Senator Carper. “State Directors guide our Delaware team, know exactly what is happening here at home and find ways to help move the First State forward. I would like to thank Lori James for her inexhaustible work in that role and all she has done and will continue to do to fight for Delawareans in all parts of the state. Asi has big shoes to fill, but I’m confident that with her extensive background and decades of experience, she will be able to hit the ground running to continue Lori’s example, and be a dynamic, integral part of our team that works to ensure Delaware remains a great place to live, work and do business.”
Prior to joining Senator Carper’s office, Ofosu was a campaign manager for a state-wide campaign in Delaware, and, before that, worked for decades for several Members of Congress, including Representatives Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, Yvette D. Clarke and Elijah E. Cummings. In Rep. Clarke’s office, Ofosu served in the dual role of Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director. She helped with the formation of the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls, the Multicultural Media Caucus, and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Sojourner Truth Legacy Project. She was also the lead staffer who worked on the introduction of legislation to place a statue of former Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm in the U.S. Capitol Building.
Ofosu holds a law degree from Widener University Delaware Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Delaware State University. She is a proud member of the Dover (DE) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Epsilon Iota Omega chapter, where she serves as the Graduate Advisor for the undergraduate chapter, Delta Lambda, at Delaware State University.
