Carper Statement on Trump’s Continued Sabotage of Health Care System

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement on President Trump’s announcement that the federal government will stop cost-sharing reduction payments that help low-income Americans pay for their health coverage. This move will sow chaos and uncertainty in our health care system.

“The Trump Administration knows exactly what could be done to stabilize the marketplaces and keep affordable health coverage within reach for millions of Americans. Instead, the president has chosen to do just the opposite. Cutting cost-sharing reduction payments is just one example of his continued efforts to take heath care away from the most vulnerable among us.

“Having said that, the efforts by Senators Alexander and Murray to stabilize the marketplaces over the next two years while providing additional flexibility to states are ongoing, and this announcement out of the White House makes their successful conclusion more urgent than ever.”
