Carper Applauds OGE Directive to White House Counsel to Investigate Kellyanne Conway
WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), a senior member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the nonpartisan Office of Government Ethics (OGE) urged the White House Counsel to investigate Kellyanne Conway’s endorsement of Ivanka Trump products on Fox & Friends.
“I applaud the Office of Government Ethics for calling on the White House Counsel to promptly investigate and consider disciplinary action for Kellyanne Conway, Counselor to President Donald Trump. After Ms. Conway promoted the president’s daughter’s namesake business on Fox News last week, it became clear that she and other White House staff either do not understand or do not take seriously their ethical obligations. Ms. Conway’s remarks last week are only the latest in a string of ethical controversies from the Trump Administration.
“OGE regulations make clear that a presidential appointee who publicly promotes a commercial product has misused her position. I encourage the White House Counsel to take decisive action by fully embracing OGE’s advice and set a better example for addressing apparent ethical violations than President Trump has.”
