Carper Statement on Bastille Day Attacks in Nice
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper, top Democrat on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement on the Bastille Day attack in Nice, France that claimed the lives of more than 80 people, including two Americans, and injured hundreds more.
“My prayers are with the victims of this horrific attack, their loved ones, the community of Nice, and the people of France. I am carefully monitoring this situation and will continue to do so as we gather more information from our partners overseas. I know I am joined by millions in mourning with the families who are struggling to comprehend their tremendous losses today.
“During this dark hour, the United States stands with France, our nation’s oldest ally. Forged centuries ago, the relationship between our countries is rooted in our shared commitment to the very core values that terrorists seek to destroy – life, liberty, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. Together, we must remember that no amount of violence and hatred can conquer our resolve to persevere, even in the most difficult times.”
