Senator Carper Applauds Department of Homeland Security’s Efforts to Support Small Businesses

Agency Receives Grade of “A” from Small Business Administration for Seventh Year in a Row

Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement commending the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for receiving an “A” grade from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) on its annual Small Business Federal Procurement Scorecard for the seventh year in a row. The announcement from SBA comes after the Senate voted last week to honor the first week in May 2016 as National Small Business week:

“Congratulations to Secretary Johnson and all of the men and women at DHS for their continued efforts to support small businesses across the country, reaching and exceeding their goals for seven years in a row – the only federal agency to achieve that mark. Small businesses are vital to the American economy and it is crucial that each individual federal agency does all it can to reach contracting goals that support these important businesses. The department’s ongoing record of achieving its goals is a testament to its ongoing commitment to protecting and supporting our communities in any way it can. During this National Small Business Week, I want to especially thank small businesses in Delaware and across the country for the immense contributions they make to our communities and our economy every day of the year.”

The Small Business Federal Procurement Scorecard is an annual assessment tool that measures how well federal agencies reach their small business and socio-economic prime contracting and subcontracting goals. The prime and subcontracting component goals include goals for small businesses, small businesses owned by women (WOSBs), small disadvantaged businesses (SDBs), service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs), and small businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones).
