Carper Statement on Trans-Pacific Partnership Signing in New Zealand

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, released the following statement after the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was signed today in New Zealand:

“Today, with Ambassador Froman’s signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, our country took a critical step forward in bolstering our relationship with some of the fastest growing economies in the world,” Sen. Carper said. “The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a high-standard trade agreement with a 21^st century framework. It includes historic requirements for enforceable labor and environmental provisions, and pays close and critical attention to important issues like human rights.

“In Delaware, international trade already supports 120,000 jobs and billions of dollars in exports to 187 countries around the world. By promoting free and fair trade, and breaking down trade barriers, this agreement would continue driving our state and national economy forward, and foster a nurturing environment for job growth. It’s my hope that my colleagues in Congress will join me in supporting the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and help both American workers and businesses – large and small – compete and win in our global economy. I look forward to working with my colleagues to get this agreement across the finish line this year.”
