Senator Carper honors U.S. Coast Guard Officer
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – On July 10, 2015, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del), ranking member on the Senate Committee for Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, joined members of the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at Station Indian River Inlet to highlight the work of Petty Officer Joscelyn Greenwell. Petty Officer Greenwell has served the country for more than 7 years, during which time she provided disaster relief following the catastrophic 2010 Haiti earthquake, and served in San Diego, Calif. and Honolulu, Hawaii. Now in Delaware, she helps keep watch over parts of the Delaware Bay, Rehoboth Bay, Indian River Bay and Atlantic Ocean. She also serves as a mentor to younger personnel and has assisted fellow shipmates in receiving their qualifications as watch standers, boat crew members, boarding team members and coxswains.
“We Delawareans can rest assured that Petty Officer Greenwell and her Coast Guard unit stand ready to answer our call, if ever we ever need their assistance. Petty Officer Greenwell, your service to our nation has taken you around the world. I know you will continue to go far in all of your endeavors. Every day, you help to ensure the safety of your fellow Americans and the security of our nation. I thank you for your tireless dedication and invaluable service to the state and the nation that we call home,” said Sen. Carper. “To the thousands of brave men and women who dedicate their lives to service across the Department of Homeland Security: please know that what you do every day is important. I hope it fills your work with meaning and your life with happiness. Oh behalf of the people that we serve together, thank you for your service.”
On June 24, 2015, Sen. Carper delivered a speech on the Senate floor highlighting the work of Greenwell and the Coast Guard. The speech can be watched here, or read online here.
