Senator Carper Meets with Newly-Insured Delawareans under Affordable Care Act; Highlights Mar. 31 Deadline

SEAFORD, Del. – Today, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) visited the newly-expanded La Red Health Center where he highlighted the upcoming Mar. 31 deadline for health insurance open enrollment under the Affordable Care Act.
Senator Carper toured La Red’s renovated 8,900 square foot facility in Seaford. The expansion and met with both La Red community health officials and newly-insured Delawareans.
“Today I had the opportunity to meet with Delawareans who have enrolled in health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act and to see one of our state’s great community health centers that works to improve Delawareans’ overall health and wellbeing,” Sen. Carper said. “With the deadline for 2014 enrollment less than two weeks away, I strongly urge all uninsured individuals to go to ChooseHealthDE.com to get information about the various health insurance plans available and potential financial assistance they may qualify for to reduce their insurance costs. ChooseHealthDE.com also has helpful information about where to find an enrollment event or community health center like La Red where Delawareans can get in person help with choosing and enrolling in a high quality health insurance plan.”
La Red was one of three Delaware health centers to receive federal grants from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to assist with enrollments in the Affordable Care Act. Through December, La Red guides had assisted with nearly 500 enrollments.
More than 7,000 Delawareans have enrolled in health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act, with more than half receiving federal assistance. Delawareans who are still uninsured can visit http://www.choosehealthde.com and get covered by Mar. 31.
