Sen. Carper Launches Comprehensive Web Page for Veterans Resources and Information

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) launched a page on his website – www.carper.senate.gov/veterans – dedicated to helping Delaware’s veterans gain access to important resources and information. Sen. Carper’s veterans resources web page will be a central clearinghouse of information and resources for veterans of all ages – ranging from how to claim education benefits to job search guides to where to find your local VA hospital. The page builds on Sen. Carper’s commitment to ensure that our veterans have the proper resources and support they need once they arrive home.

Specifically, this convenient and easy-to-use web page aggregates links to veteran-related resources, including U.S. and Delaware Department of Veterans Affairs benefits forms and Veterans Jobs Bank information; provides an interactive Google Map of VA health care facilities in Delaware; and highlights Sen. Carper’s work to improve educational and employment opportunities for veterans.

“As a veteran, I know the sacrifices our service members make by defending our nation,” said Sen. Carper. “We owe our veterans more than just a debt of gratitude for their service to our country. We owe them our sincere commitment to providing them with new jobs and a world-class education and ensuring that they have access to proper resources and support – like housing, health care and financial literacy training. That’s why I continue to work on initiatives that support our veterans, whether it’s legislation, public outreach or constituent services. I hope veterans can use this webpage as a convenient and easily navigable guide to help access the services and support they need – and their families need – once they return home.”

Today’s launch coincides with Sen. Carper’s meeting with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. The annual meeting, which includes Sen. Chris Coons and Rep. John Carney (both D-Del.), brings together Department of Veterans Affairs leadership and local veterans.

In February, Sen. Carper introduced legislation, the Military and Veterans Education Protection Act (MVEP), to improve the current laws regarding educational benefits for our nation’s military service members and veterans by modifying the current 90/10 financial aid formula used by for-profit colleges. Additionally, in March, Sen. Carper joined the Veterans Jobs Caucus, a bipartisan caucus focused on reducing the number of our nation’s 857,000 unemployed veterans seeking work through developing veterans’ employment initiatives and partnering with businesses and organizations to boost veteran job-training and hiring.
