Sen. Carper Commends the Senate for Confirming Virginia Seitz as Assistant Attorney General

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) lauded the Senate confirmation of Virginia Seitz, the President’s nominee to serve as Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Justice Department.

“Our country is fortunate that someone with Virginia Seitz’s outstanding credentials has stepped forward to do this important work. Virginia is someone who has done, and who will continue to do, great service for the nation. With her legal wisdom, her tireless work ethic, and her experience as a federal litigator, she is more than qualified to serve as Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel. I’d like to thank my colleagues in the Senate for recognizing her qualifications and moving quickly to confirm her nomination to this post.”

Virginia Seitz graduated summa cum laude from Duke University and studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. She later earned her law degree from the University at Buffalo, graduating first in her class. After law school, Ms. Seitz clerked for Judge Harry T. Edwards of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and for U.S. Supreme Court Justice William Brennan. Currently, Ms. Seitz is a partner at the law firm of Sidley Austin in Washington, D.C. and is considered one of the nation’s leading appellate litigators.

Virginia’s father, C.J. Seitz served as Vice Chancellor, and then Chancellor, of the Delaware Court of Chancery, earning distinction for his decisions in crucial civil rights cases. After 20 years on the Delaware bench, C.J. Seitz joined the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
