Protecting Our Children: A Frank Discussion
WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper will reaffirm the First State’s commitment to keeping children safe at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Wilmington tomorrow. Carper will tour the facility, meet with the center’s advocacy team and participate in a frank discussion about what is happening on the frontlines of child advocacy agencies. The team will work with Carper to identify some of the nation’s best practices, highlighting what works and pinpointing what doesn’t. This week, (Aug. 10 to Aug. 17) has been designated as National Joining Hands to Protect Children Week. “As a father of two young boys I understand every parents fear that something could happen to their kids. Protecting our children is and must be a community effort,” Carper said. “Members of every community, across the nation, will be coming together to join National Joining Hands to Protect Children Week.” The mission of The Children’s Advocacy Center is to reduce the devastating long-term effects that child abuse has on children, their families and society. Their primary function is to intervene on behalf of abused children. By bringing law enforcement, prosecution, child protective services, victim advocacy an the medical and mental health communities under one roof, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Delaware helps to ensure that children are not further victimized by the system intended to protect them.
