Carper Endorses State’s Decision to Enforce Motiva’s Original Consent Decree
Wilmington, DE- Senator Tom Carper today endorsed the state’s decision to enforce Motiva’s original consent decree requiring a regenerative process to reduce air emissions of sulfur dioxide at Motiva’s Delaware City Refinery. Senator Tom Carper also applauded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to stand by the original consent decree. Earlier this month, Senators Tom Carper, Joe Biden and Congressman Mike Castle helped obtain important water quality data from Motiva to assist in DNREC’s decision. “Based on the information released today by DNREC it is clear that the original consent decree is more protective of Delaware’s environment, ” Senator Tom Carper said today. “My staff has been in touch with EPA throughout this process and will continue to work with them to ensure that Delaware’s environment is protected as we move forward.”
