Carper Announces Local School District to Receive A Nearly One Million Dollar Federal Grant

Wilmington, DE — The Red Clay Consolidated School District has been selected to receive $954,639 in funding under the Teaching American History Grant Program, Senator Tom Carper announced today. The Teaching American History Grant Program supports projects that enhance student achievement through the improvement of teachers and their knowledge of American history. The programâ??s philosophy is that student achievement and teacher instruction improve greatly as teachers develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of American history. “Educating our youth on the principles on which our nation was founded and the struggles over which America has triumphed is the highest priority in teaching American history,” Carper said. “Applying for and receiving the funding for the Teaching American History Grant Program attests to Red Clay’s dedication to educating students.” Over three years, the project provides eight two-day American history workshops and three two-week summer institutes. The project focuses on teachers of grades 3-8 who only teach American history.
