Senator Tom Carper Announces $6.75 Million in Federal Funding for Rehoboth Streetscape on Monday, August 1, 2005

Senator Carper will be at the Bandstand Area on Rehoboth Avenue at the Boardwalk on Monday, August 1st, from noon – 1:00 p.m. to announce $6.75 million in federal funding he secured through the surface transportation reauthorization bill, called the Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: a Legacy for Users, or SAFETEA-LU (H.R. 3). This bill will fund the national highway, bridge, transit and highway safety programs through September 30, 2009. Senator Carper secured $6,750,000 for the Phase III-C, Infrastructure and Streetscape Improvements on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach. This money will be used to complete the final phase of the project that includes the reconstruction of a street lane, new streetlights, reconnection of sewer and water lines, and improvements to sidewalks, restrooms, and the bandstand area. Senator Carper will speak first, and additional remarks about the importance of this project will come from: Senator George Bunting, Rehoboth Mayor Sam Cooper, Mike Rothenheber of Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Overall Project Manager for the Streetscape Project, and Dale Lomas, Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Rehoboth-Dewey Chamber of Commerce. Also attending are Representative Pete Schwarztkopf and Carol Everhart, President and CEO of the Rehoboth-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce.
