Carper Statement on EPA’s Response to Clean Air Inquiry
WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. Carper released the following statement regarding EPA’s July 22 letter, acknowledging that the agency plans to conduct a new analysis of the bipartisan Clean Air Planning Act (S. 843), which seeks to reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury and carbon dioxide. Sen. Carper on July 1 requested the agency complete a new analysis of CAPA after the agency conducted a revised analysis of the administration’s Clear Skies proposal. “I appreciate that EPA has responded to my July 1 request and that the agency has recognized the need for Congress to have up-to-date information on the clean air proposals under consideration. In my letter to EPA on July 1, I asked that EPA not only conduct an updated analysis of the Clean Air Planning Act, but that the agency also include an interpretation of that analysis that describes the economic costs and environmental and health benefits of the bill. I look forward to receiving that information as soon as possible.”
