Carper on Senator Lott’s Decision Not to Seek Reelection as Senate Majority Leader:

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Tom Carper issued the following statement after Senator Trent Lott (R-MI) announced this morning that he would not seek reelection as Senate Majority Leader in the 108th Congress. “Senator Lott has said that his words were insensitive and he has stated repeatedly that he shouldn’t have said them. He’s right on both accounts. It’s up to the Republicans to choose the leader of their caucus and their choice will speak loudly to the country about the direction of the Republican Party.”
