Happy Fourth of July!

Dear Friend,

Happy Fourth of July! Today, we honor the day on which our founding fathers – including three Delawareans! – signed the Declaration of Independence and led the United States toward its future as a beacon of liberty and prosperity.

I am particularly proud of Delaware’s role in the history of our nation’s founding and independence. As many Delawareans know, it was our state that first ratified the Constitution, 11 years after the Declaration was signed, earning our treasured nickname as the First State. Year after year, I’m honored to celebrate this holiday with all of you. Whether you spend today barbequing with family or watching fireworks with friends and loved ones, I hope that we can all take a moment to remember those who played a role in forming our nation, 248 years ago today.

Today is a day for celebration, but we must also follow the footsteps of our founders and recommit to the work that the American people expect of us. Just last month, 1,400 temperature records were broken across the world. There is no time to waste in addressing the climate crisis, and I’m proud to share that this year, both the House of Representatives and the Senate passed the bipartisan ADVANCE Act to help us meet our climate goals by supporting the safe deployment of our nation’s largest carbon-free energy source — nuclear energy. The ADVANCE Act is now headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law. As Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I will continue to work to advance policies that are good for our planet, good for our economy, and good for our communities.

I hope you all stay cool and enjoy a safe and happy Fourth of July.

God Bless,

Tom Carper
