Starting Today: The Health Insurance Marketplace is OPEN!
Dear Friend,
It’s been over 13 years since I worked with my Senate colleagues to help author and pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This historic legislation protects patients with pre-existing conditions and provides health insurance to millions of Americans. Since its passage, I have heard so many stories from Delawareans up and down our state about how the ACA has helped them when they needed it most. In fact, last year, nearly 35,000 Delawareans were able to enroll in quality, affordable health care coverage thanks to the ACA’s Health Insurance Marketplace. I’m proud to have played a role in increasing access to quality, affordable health care while also ensuring that no one is denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.
Now, it’s that time of year when the Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment period begins. If you do not already receive health insurance through your employer, Medicare, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you and your family can enroll in coverage through this online tool.
From today, November 1, through January 15, 2024, you can enroll, re-enroll, or change your health plan by visiting Healthcare.gov, or by calling the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596. TTY users can call 1-855-889-4325. In order to avoid a lapse in coverage with the start of the new year, be sure to enroll in a health plan by December 15. Those who enroll after December 15 may not be guaranteed immediate coverage after their plan expires on December 31.
In addition to the health insurance marketplace, some Delawareans might be eligible for coverage through Delaware’s Medicaid program, which is open year-round. To be screened for eligibility or to apply for Medicaid benefits, go to Delaware ASSIST.
All these years later, the ACA continues to provide critical protections for the health and wellbeing of millions of Americans. It’s clear that we must work to expand and strengthen this landmark legislation, and I’m glad that President Biden is laser focused on increasing access to care for families in every corner of our nation. Moreover, building on the success of the ACA starts with you – if you are eligible, please be sure to enroll before the January 15 deadline to ensure you have coverage in the upcoming year.
Sincerely,
Tom Carper
