Chairman Carper and Senator Tester Highlight Public Service Recognition Week

WASHINGTON- Today, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Efficiency and Effectiveness of Federal Programs and the Federal Workforce, issued the following statements highlighting May 4-10, 2014 as Public Service Recognition Week.

“From small towns to our nation’s capital, public servants work hard to provide essential services to help keep our nation on track,” said Chairman Carper. “They deserve our recognition during this week and every week.  I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to thank a public servant and to learn more about the work that he or she does to help make this country as great as it is.”

“From our troops and firefighters to teachers and workers at the VA, America’s public servants are tireless and often perform thankless jobs to keep us safe and support our families,” said Senator Tester. “As we work to make government more efficient, we must recognize public employees’ role in strengthening our economy and our quality of life.”

Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated during the first week of May every year since 1985.
