Delaware Congressional Delegation to host free grant fair and workshop on May 21st in Dover

WILMINGTON, Del. — In order to help Delawareans better understand the process for finding and securing grant opportunities, U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and U.S. Representative John Carney (all D-DE) are hosting a Grant Fair and Workshop on Monday, May 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the MLK Student Center on the campus of Delaware State University.

“This event will give grant seekers an opportunity to ask questions and get answers to help them with the grant application process,” said Sen. Carper. “It’s our job to ensure that the hard working organizations seeking funding to help their communities, as well as our state, get access to the best information possible so they can compete and hopefully win critical federal grant money. I hope we get a big turnout from organizations across the First State for this event and that these organizations continue to utilize our Congressional Delegation’s offices as a helpful resource.”

“Researching, writing and applying for grants can be a daunting process, and we want to do all we can to make the system easier and more accessible for small business owners, entrepreneurs and non-profits,” Senator Coons said. “We regularly get calls and questions about federal grant opportunities, so the need for information is real. I hope these folks will come out on Monday, May 21st to hear from 20-plus funders who will be on hand to provide valuable information.”

“We’re trying to help small business owners, entrepreneurs, and non-profit directors better understand the grant process and position themselves to be successful,” said Congressman Carney. “The state and federal grant process can be very competitive and complicated. We have tremendous organizations and programs operating throughout the state, and we should take every opportunity to help them grow and better serve our community.”

More than 20 funders from state and federal governments, private foundations, and non-profit agencies will be present at the fair. Confirmed participants include: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Boeing, Delaware Community Foundation, PSEG, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth, and their Families, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, U.S. Department of Education, WSFS, U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Labor, Discover, National Endowment for the Arts, U.S. Small Business Administration, Delaware Department of Labor, Association of Funding Professionals-Brandywine Chapter, Delaware Association of Nonprofit Agencies, and Wells Fargo.

Workshops will also be offered during the day focusing on grant writing, the grant evaluation process, and best practices for securing funding. The fair and workshops are free for participants. Seating is limited for the workshops, so please RSVP if you plan to attend.
