Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Approves Nomination of OMB Director

WASHINGTON – Today, Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.) released a statement following the Committee’s vote to approve the nomination of Sylvia Matthews Burwell to be Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The Committee reported out her nomination by a voice vote:

“As an accomplished leader in the both the public and private sector, including serving as the Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget and Deputy Chief of Staff during the Clinton Administration and as the head of two of the nation’s largest philanthropic foundations, I am confident Sylvia Mathews Burwell knows what it takes to get our nation back on a sound fiscal path. She has the skills and expertise necessary to lead the Office of Management and Budget at this critical point in time and will be a valuable member of the Administration as it works with Congress to frame budget negotiations and lay the groundwork for a long-term solution to our complex fiscal challenges. I look forward to working with my colleagues to see her nomination fairly considered and swiftly confirmed by the full Senate.”
