Carper announces New Sussex Co. Director, Mark Lally Returns to Aide the Senator and Serve his Home State

GEORGETOWN, DE – As a State Trooper, Mark Lally spent his first career responding to Delawarean’s calls for help. In his new job, as Senator Tom Carper’s Sussex County Director, Lally will continue with that mission. Senator Thomas R. Carper today announced that Lally will serve as his new Sussex County Director. The new assignment serves as a reunion of sorts for the two. Lally recently retired as a Sergeant after 24 years with the Delaware State Police, where he ran the Executive Protection Unit charged with protecting the former Governor and his family. “I come from the old cliché that you become a policeman to help people. I continue to be motivated by that,” Lally said. “I had the opportunity to get to know the Senator very well while he was Governor, and I saw his genuine passion for helping people. I accept this job with the continued belief that together, we can make a difference for Sussex County.” Traveling extensively with then-Governor Carper, Lally was a regular visitor at Delaware’s schools, nursing homes, businesses, and community centers. He saw what public efforts worked best in each community and learned about each community’s needs. Lally will use that experience to reach out to his fellow Sussex Countians. “I am proud to have Mark Lally back on my team. While he stood by my side throughout my administration, he is out in front now, serving the public in a different capacity,” Carper said. “His commitment to his community, demonstrated by his lifelong career in law enforcement, will serve the citizens of Sussex County well. Mark has earned my full trust and respect.” Prior to his appointment to the Senator’s staff, Lally was a shift supervisor at Troop 7 in Lewes. He also served in the uniformed division at Troop 9. He lives in Sussex County with his wife and has five children, three of which are grown. Lally will work out of Senator Carper’s office in Georgetown, located on The Circle.
