On Iraq, Carper Says Bush has Zero Tolerance
WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper today released the following statement on today’s US air strike against Iraq. “I realize there are those here and abroad who may question the need for a strike of this nature. I believe the benefit of the doubt in this instance should go to the President and to his team of advisors. President Bush wants to make clear to Saddam Hussein that we will not sit idly by while the Iraqis fire on US aircraft enforcing the no-fly zone. I agree that we must protect the health and safety of our troops and am grateful that they returned from their mission safely. The President clearly signaled that there will be zero tolerance for Iraqi military action against our troops.”
