Sen. Carper Says House Energy & Climate Change Bill Gets Ball Rolling
WASHINGTON – As Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement today in response to the release of a discussion draft of comprehensive energy and climate change legislation by Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.):
“This House bill gets the ball rolling on congressional efforts to craft meaningful legislation to advance our nation’s energy policy and address the climate change challenge.
“I commend the House for including a provision similar to bipartisan legislation I introduced this month – the Clean Low-Emissions Affordable New Transportation Equity Act or CLEAN TEA – which reduces pollution from the transportation sector by giving Americans more and better transportation choices.
“There is still a lot of hard work ahead, but I am optimistic that working with my colleagues in the Senate, House and Administration, this Congress will pass essential energy and climate change legislation.”
