Meeting with those in Kent County Who Make the Community Work
DOVER, DE – Senator Tom Carper will be meeting with those who make the community work as he continues his swing through Kent County Friday. Carper will start the day by greeting UPS workers beginning their daily routes and touring the facility in Harrington. A strong advocate for mentoring and volunteering, Carper will be on hand at a lunchtime banquet to thank the more than 3,300 Delaware seniors who contribute their energies to the Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program. Carper continues his tour of Dover’s unique health facilities Friday, visiting Dover CONNECTIONS and Delmarva Rural Ministries. Both partner with the House of PRIDE, which Carper toured Thursday. The area health programs work together to serve the under and uninsured. Carper successfully worked to help Delmarva Rural Ministries receive a $413,880 federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services in March. The money will improve access to health care for 3,000 low-income persons and enable the Kent Community Health Center to add to its staff of medical providers and expand its facilities. Carper will throw the opening pitch at the Blue Rocks season opener Friday evening. 8:45-9:45 a.m. Kent County UPS Works Carper greets United Parcel Service workers beginning their daily routes Location: 15994 South Dupont Highway, Harrington 11:30- 12:50 p.m. Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) Recognition Luncheon Carper thanks the more than 3,300 Delaware seniors who contribute their energies to volunteering and mentoring in the First State.
