Sen. Carper Comments On His Vote For The Economic Recovery Bill

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement in response to his vote late tonight in support of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (H.R. 1):

“America is facing our toughest economic challenge since the Great Depression. People are struggling today, and worried about what tomorrow will bring for themselves and their families.

“The people of Delaware and America elect us to Congress to get things done. They want us to work across party lines and figure out what works to solve the problems they face – keeping the roofs over their heads, paying their bills, holding onto their jobs or getting the training that will help them find new ones, sending their kids to college, and making sure they don’t lose their health care coverage.

“No one piece of legislation can do all those things, but the $786 billion economic recovery bill Congress passed on Friday is a good step forward.

“We worked to ensure that the legislation does not include earmarks, and that taxpayers in Delaware get the most bangs for their bucks as we make critical investments in our nation’s people and economic infrastructure.

“Delawareans will see benefits from this bill in the form of jobs and tax cuts. Over the coming weeks, I look forward to sharing the ways in which Delaware families and businesses will receive badly needed assistance with the passage of this legislation.”
