Sen. Carper Commends President on Speech to the Nation
Supports Comprehensive Economic Recovery Efforts & A Return to Fiscal Responsibility
WASHINGTON – Following President Barack Obama’s first address to a Joint Session of the Congress tonight, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement:
“Tonight, the president laid out a thoughtful and comprehensive approach on how he intends to tackle our economic and fiscal crises, and get our country back on the right track. It’s clear that you can’t tackle one problem without trying to solve another, and so the president has put together a plan that will create jobs, stabilize our housing markets, free up credit and restore accountability in our financial system.
“The President also spoke optimistically about the challenges ahead. We all know these are tough times, but Americans are tough, too — tough, resilient and innovative. We need to remember that as we go forward.
“It’s my hope that Republican and Democrat alike will join hands and work together to solve our nation’s problems and get America moving again.”
