Sen. Carper Hosts Delaware Students for 12th Annual U.S. Service Academy Information Night

DOVER, Del. – Tonight, more than 200 Delaware middle and high school students, along with their families, teachers and school counselors, attended U.S. Sen. Tom Carper’s (D-Del.) 12th annual U.S. Service Academy Information Night. Representatives from the service academies and other military organizations joined Sen. Carper and representatives of Senator Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney at the event to answer questions and provide information to students and their families interested in attending U.S. Service Academies.

“Our nation’s first-rate service academies offer students a unique opportunity to obtain an excellent education, serve their country and gain valuable leadership skills that will guide them in their future,” said Sen. Carper, a veteran. “I am delighted so many Delaware students and their families came out to learn more about the opportunities available at our service academies.”

Participants included the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the United States Military Academy, the United States Coast Guard Academy and the Delaware National Guard, as well as Air Force, Army and Navy ROTC program representatives and the Delaware Civil Air Patrol.

The evening also featured remarks from Asher Bovankovich, a student at Delaware Military Academy, who received three service academy nominations from Delaware’s Congressional Delegation and is the Regimental Commander of 560 cadets at Delaware Military Academy. She talked to the crowd about the service academy application process and gave students advice on being successful.
