Sen. Carper Reminds Young Delawareans They Can Apply for FEMA Youth Preparedness Council
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, highlighted the extended deadline for applications to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Youth Preparedness Council. Applications to the program are now due by Monday, March 3, 2014.
“FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council is an outstanding opportunity for young people in Delaware and throughout the country to gain valuable public service experience and learn about what it takes to prepare communities for disasters,” Sen. Carper said. “More than ever before, we need the best, most passionate students to help lead their communities in times of crisis. Programs like this are an opportunity for us to invest in the future of our students and build a stronger tomorrow. I encourage all students interested in this great opportunity to apply today.”
The FEMA Youth Preparedness Council was formed in 2013 as an opportunity for young people to connect with other youth leaders and gain invaluable hands-on experience in preparedness activities. The program is designed for students between the ages of 12 and 17 who are dedicated to public service, are engaged in their community or wish to make a difference in their community. Council members will attend a Youth Preparedness Council Summit on youth disaster preparedness and will also complete a Council project with FEMA support.
The deadline to apply is Monday, March 3, 2014. For more information about the program and how to apply, click here or email FEMA-Youth-Preparedness-Council@fema.dhs.gov.
