Senator Carper Celebrates National Charter Schools Week in Delaware

At Providence Creek Academy, Senator Carper heard from students about their schoolwork.

CLAYTON, DE – This week, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) celebrated National Charter Schools Week by visiting Providence Creek Academy and First State Military Academy in Kent County, Delaware. A long-time supporter of public charter schools, Senator Carper signed the Charter School Act of 1995 into law as Delaware’s governor. This year, he re-joined Senators Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.) on a bipartisan resolution to honor National Charter Schools Week and commend charter schools on their contribution to education.

“High-quality, public charter schools support our students every day, fostering innovation and excellence in the public school system,” said Senator Carper. “As a proud father whose two sons attended a charter school, I know firsthand how these schools and educators can impact the lives of their students. I’m proud to continue my work to support and strengthen public charter schools in the First State and across the nation.”

Senator Carper met students and discussed their service at First State Military Academy.
