Senator Carper to Heritage Foundation: ‘Look Around’ Delaware to See Obamacare’s Positive Impact

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee who helped craft the Affordable Care Act, released the following statement on the town hall meeting on “defunding Obamacare” that the Heritage Foundation will hold tomorrow, August 29, in Wilmington, Del.:

“While they’re in Delaware, the Heritage Foundation and its allies should take a look around. What they would see is a state that is at the forefront of expanding health care coverage, lowering costs and getting better health outcomes for less money. Delaware has become a national leader in health care thanks in no small part to the Affordable Care Act. Instead of recognizing how it has already been successful and helping find ways to further implement it as effectively as possible, many on the right are threatening extreme measures like shutting down the government unless we adopt their ideological goal of ‘defunding Obamacare.’ That’s unfortunate. Obamacare is the law of the land, and Congress, the Obama Administration and all of us should instead be focused on ensuring that the Affordable Care Act lives up to its full potential to cut health care costs and provide millions of Americans with affordable insurance. Anything else is just politics.”
