Senator Carper Welcomes Joe Biden Home

WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) joined Governor John Carney, Delaware’s Congressional Delegation, Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki, and hundreds of Delawareans at a an event to welcome home former Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden at the Chase Center on the Riverfront:

“As we welcome my good friend and Delaware’s own Joe Biden home today, I am incredibly proud of his service to our country as Vice President. When Barack and Joe were inaugurated in January 2008, we were in the middle of the greatest economic downturn since the Great Depression. The national unemployment rate was 7.8 percent and in Delaware, we lost the General Motors and Chrysler plants, and many good paying jobs that went with them. Fast forward to today, and our nation is currently in the midst of the longest streak of private sector job growth on record – over six straight years. While we don’t have those car plants in Delaware any longer, we do have a thriving STAR Campus in Newark and great hope for future business on Boxwood Road. Our economy continues to grow stronger, and 13 million Americans now have high quality, affordable health insurance. Our air is cleaner and we have made great strides in decreasing our dependence on fossil fuels and increasing our reliance on renewable energy.

“Joe was a Vice President that exemplified bipartisanship, and championed policies that help all Americans. Through triumph and tragedy, he’s remained a loyal public servant to the United States of America. Now, I cannot think of anyone better to embark on a ‘cancer moonshot’ than our Joe Biden.”
